Job Description

BAE Systems is hiring a Director II of Business Development to support our Combat Mission Systems (CMS) business. The Director will support the Weapon Systems product line within the CMS business in the Platforms & Services Segment. The Director will serve as a key member on the Weapon Systems business' Senior Leadership Team (SLT).

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and qualify new business opportunities that provide ample room for the business to grow at a rate that matches or exceeds its addressable market growth.

  • Oversee and manage all business winning activities for the Weapon Systems product line, from opportunity identification and qualification to full capture and proposal submittal.

  • Ensure all business winning efforts are properly resourced with talent, time, and funding.

  • Ensure lifecycle management is conducted to improve probability of winning new and follow-on business.

  • Ensure that capture teams are properly resourced, trained, and following industry best practices.

  • Manage a multimillion-dollar annual budget to support new business activities including bids, proposal development, marketing, and investment.

  • Lead a team of business development professionals who support all business winning activity for Naval Guns, Launchers, and Submarine programs, plus future production related to precision guided munitions and directed energy.

  • Ensure each team member is learning continuously from both experience and training.

  • Work collaboratively with others in and out of the BD functional area.

  • Ensure each team member maintains strong awareness of his / her markets, customers, competitors, and partners.

  • Serve as an exemplary role model for the team and within the Weapon Systems senior leader team.

  • Provide updates on the team s efforts and progress to functional and line leaders.

  • Represent the lead voice of the customer while advising the business on key decisions and strategic choices.

  • Support Weapon Systems efforts to maintain strong customer relationships that enable collaboration.

  • Maintain awareness of all current and emerging customer and market changes and keep Weapon Systems and CMS stakeholders apprised of these.

  • Support the Weapon Systems VP/GM with the development of strategy based on existing and emerging market changes.

  • Support the VP/GM in briefing senior internal leaders on new business progress and activities.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • US Citizen with an active Secret clearance or clearance eligible

  • Bachelor's Degree and 12 years work experience or equivalent experience

  • Experience in Business Development within the Defense industry

  • Experience in People Management/Leadership

  • Experience in Cross-functional Leadership and Team Collaboration

  • Knowledge of DoD s planning, programming, and budgeting system (PPBS) and Joint Capabilities Integration and Development System (and successor systems)

  • Knowledge of US Navy's acquisition and resource sponsor organizations for surface and sub-surface warfare

  • Ability to interface with key external decision makers

  • Strong capability to work with all MS Office applications

  • Superb written and oral communication skills

  • Strong collaboration skills

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Active Top Secret Clearance

  • MBA or Masters Degree in Engineering

  • Prior service as a Naval Officer in surface warfare or submarines

  • Experience in Foreign Military Sales (FMS)/Direct Commercial Sales (DCS)

  • Proficiency in Salesforce CRM or related system

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $173023 - $294137

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
