Full job description

BluePearl Pet Hospital is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Veterinary Assistant to join their fast-paced emergency department in Reno, NV in an overnight capacity!

VA Pay: $19 - $27 / hour

This pay band is dependent on experience and advancement through the Kahuna leveling system .

Shift: 6pm-6am - one weekend shift required per week

We also offer competitive shift differential pay for eligible hours worked for nights and weekends.

*Shift differentials are based on a 4-hour minimum.

For example:

  • Mon – Fri: 6pm to 8am = $3.50 Shift Differential

  • Sat & Sun: 8am to 6pm = $3.50 Shift Differential

  • Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = $5.00 Shift Differential

Our Veterinary Assistants triage emergency cases as they come in and assist DVM with crafting and going overestimates as needed. In addition, they perform diagnostics (radiographs, labwork, etc), setting patients up in ICU or Inpatient ward, discharging patients, and handling client communication.

As an Emergency Veterinary Assistant , you will:

  • Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.

  • Report patient signalment, problem list and plan during nursing rounds.

  • Understand classification ofcommonly usedmedications, associated sideeffectsand appropriately monitors therapeutic response.

  • Administer medications viaappropriate routesand duration.

  • Perform phlebotomy.

  • Perform physicalexam; accurately countsheart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratoryrateand effort.

  • Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment andassistwith patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.

  • Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines anddemonstratesproficiencyin designatedroleas assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
