Full job description

Position Summary

The Safety Manager is responsible for coordinating efforts with Operations and Maintenance to implement and continuously improve proactive safety programs and training ensuring compliance of all federal, state and company policies across our Massachusetts, Connecticut and New Hampshire market.

Hiring Range:$92,700 to $121,700per year

Key Responsibilities

  • Acts as a safety resource to market employees, site managers and supervisors as well as regional managers.
  • Performs internal inspections, paperwork and facility, and reports results to the management team with a plan to follow up on each action item.
  • Coordinates with Operations and Maintenance safety training for all Casella personnel at all levels within the market.
  • Responds, investigates and assists the market’s managers and supervisors with accidents and injuries i.e. ensures an effective incident management program.
  • Participates in site safety meetings, truck inspections, employee recognition celebrations and similar site events with Operations and Maintenance teams.
  • Develops and maintains job safety assessments with Operations and Maintenance identifying at risk behaviors and conditions.
  • Develops an annual personal growth program in conjunction with the Regional Safety Manager.
  • Participates in training and other learning opportunities to expand knowledge of the company, products, sales, and services and performs any other duties needed to help drive our vision, fulfill our mission, and/or abide by our core values.

Education, Experience & Qualifications

The successful candidate will have an Associate degree, 5-7 years of safety management experience with a focus on OSHA and FMCSA regulations, a valid driver’s license, a clean driving record, and be legally eligible to work in the US. An ability to travel regionally and nationally occasionally for extended periods of time is needed. A bachelor’s degree and experience or interest in an environmental and/or sustainability field is preferred. An ability to pass pre-employment testing is necessary. The physical ability to handle objects 50-75 lbs. frequently, walk, stand, climb and work under many different weather conditions are needed.

Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, an ability to develop, implement and train employees in safe workplace practices, and a strong commitment to workplace safety are required. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, online research skills, and a demonstrated ability to work as part of a team in a collaborative environment are expected.
