Summary The Division of Insurance and Research (DIR) provides the public with a sound deposit insurance system by: providing comprehensive statistical information on banking; identifying and analyzing emerging risks; conducting research that supports sound deposit insurance, banking policy, improved risk assessment, and consumer protection; and assessing the adequacy of the deposit insurance fund and implementing an effective and fair risk-based premium system. Internship will begin Fall 2026. Responsibilities At the full performance level of the position, the duties are as follows: Performs research and compiles financial and economic information. Uses various computer software (e.g., spreadsheet, database, presentation, mapping, design, and economic) to extract data and generate reports. Prepares draft summaries of financial and economic research data on existing and emerging issues. Presents draft research findings orally and in writing to staff. Maintains and updates various office files to include work papers, data files, and records. Requirements Conditions of Employment Registration with the Selective Service. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. (CG-04) Applicants must have completed: - two (2) full academic years of post-high school study or obtained an associate's degree; OR - one (1) year of general experience in clerical, office, or other work responsibilities, demonstrating the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled; OR - a combination of education and experience: equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. Combination of Education and Experience - Your current education completed is credited as a percentage of the education required for the grade level and your current experience is credited as a percentage of the total experience required for the grade level. The two percentages are added and must equal 100% in order to qualify for the desired grade level. Note: An academic year of undergraduate education is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in an accredited college or university. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. Education A participant must be accepted for enrollment or are enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) in a qualifying educational institution or accepted for enrollment or enrolled in a qualifying career or technical education program that awards a recognized postsecondary credential (such as a Registered Apprenticeship Program, Jobs Corps, AmeriCorps, and Peace Corps) on a full or half-time basis; have at least a cumulative (overall) 2.5 grade point average; and remain in good academic standing. Additional Information FDIC employees work full-time in the office in collaboration with other staff at the location for which they are hired. The duty location is determined upon selection. The range of pay shown includes base pay plus supplemental locality adjustments. The locality rates for these duty locations range from a low of 18.97% to a high of 51.75%.
