The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (VMBS), Texas A&M University, invites applications for a full-time, 11-month/year, clinical non-tenure track faculty position at the rank of assistant or associate professor in Small Animal Dentistry with an anticipated start date in Fall 2026 or Spring 2027. The dentistry service currently has one board-certified dentist and is staffed with three highly skilled dental technicians.

The successful candidate will devote approximately 65-75% of their time to clinical instruction and patient care in the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH) on the Dentistry service. The remaining time will be devoted to classroom and laboratory teaching (10-15%), research and other scholarly activities (5-10%), and academic citizenship (10%), including the establishment of a dentistry residency program. Clinical responsibilities will include primary management of cases, instruction of veterinary students, providing internal dentistry consultations, consulting with referring veterinarians, creating anesthetic protocols and assisting in monitoring healthy patients, and managing dental cases admitted through the emergency department.

Applicants must be committed to a team-centered atmosphere and possess excellent communication skills with animal caregivers, faculty colleagues, veterinary students, house officers, graduate students, technicians, and staff. In addition, faculty members are expected to commit to holding themselves and colleagues accountable to the VMBS Code of Professional Conduct (https://vetmed.tamu.edu/dean/code-of-conduct/) .

The dentistry service is supported by a 24-hour ICU for critical and complex cases, on-site cardiology for advanced case management, support from anesthesia and soft tissue surgery services with fully equipped sterile operating rooms, in-house oncology and radiation therapy, on-site Siemens 40-slice helical CT scanner and Siemens 3T MRI, and an on-site pathologist with advanced expertise in oral pathology. The dental suite is equipped with Cone Beam CT, a piezotome surgical unit, and a mini-plating kit. Construction has begun on the new state-of-the-art 135,000 square foot hospital, with plans for opening in August 2027, including a modern, purpose-built dentistry suite.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to interact with over 60 faculty members in the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences and an active group of house officers that includes more than 50 rotating interns and residents in the other medical and surgical disciplines.

Qualifications

Each applicant must hold a DVM or equivalent veterinary degree and must be a Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College (AVDC), European Veterinary Dental College (EVDC), or have completed an AVDC or EVDC approved residency and met the requirements to take the corresponding board exam. Applicants must be licensed or eligible for regular or special licenses to practice veterinary medicine in Texas.
