About the Position: This position is with the U.S. Army Research and Development Center (ERDC), Coastal & Hydraulic Laboratory (CHL) and will be filled as a Computer Scientist DB-02 (GS 5-11) GS 5: $40,736 - $52,957 GS 6: $45,409 - $59,031 GS 7: $50,460 - $65,599 GS 8: $55,882 - $72,644 GS 9: $61,722 - $80,243 GS 10: $67,970 - $88,356 GS 11: $74,678 - 97,087

Duties

  • Support software development needs surrounding necessary capability enhancements for civil works/military needs
  • Write reusable, testable, and efficient Python code using frameworks such as Django
  • Design database schemas, integrate data storage solutions while ensuring data security and integrity
  • Utilize geospatial expertise to perform necessary calculations and transformations on vector/raster datasets
  • Support the development, optimization, and documentation of tools for assigned data programs and projects
  • Gather and store raw data sets using appropriate processes and systems to support critical operational problems and/or decisions

Basic Requirement for Computer Scientist (1550): Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Database Administration Mathematics and Statistics Written Communication This position is covered by the Science and Technology Laboratory Personnel Management Demonstration Project at the DB-0854-02 (equivalent to GS-5/11). In accordance with the Federal Register Vol. 63, No. 57, dated March 25, 1998, Laboratory Demonstration Project employees must have a current average performance score of at least 2.5 or equivalent (fully successful rating) for promotion consideration. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (DB-01, GS 4). This announcement MAY be used to fill like vacancies six months from the closing date. All qualification requirements, including time after competitive appointment, must be met within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement. In accordance with the Federal Register Vol. 63, No. 57, dates March 25, 1998, an employee of the Laboratory Demonstration project must have a current average performance score of 2.5 or above in order to be selected for promotion. All applicants currently employed under a Laboratory Demonstration Project must include their most recent performance appraisal score as part of their electronic resume.
