Full job description

Job Description

We are seeking a Senior Scrum Master / Agile Team Coach to support three software engineering teams within a large enterprise platform organization. This individual will serve as more than a traditional Scrum Master. They will be expected to operate as a coach, facilitator, and neutral leader who helps engineering teams improve how they collaborate, prioritize work, manage dependencies, and continuously evolve their ways of working. The ideal candidate is an experienced Scrum Master who understands Agile deeply but is not rigid or overly process-driven. They should know when structure is needed and when a process needs to be adapted to better serve the team. This person will initially balance hands-on Scrum Master responsibilities with coaching and is expected to increasingly shift toward team coaching as the teams become more mature and self-sufficient.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support approximately three engineering teams / 18 engineers across a platform organization.

  • Facilitate core Agile ceremonies, including: o Daily standups o Refinement sessions o Sprint reviews and demos o Other team planning and delivery activities

  • Serve as a team coach, helping engineering teams improve collaboration, communication, accountability, and overall effectiveness.

  • Coach teams on maintaining alignment to established priorities when competing or ad hoc requests arise.

  • Identify and surface blockers and cross-team dependencies, including situations where team members may not recognize or explicitly communicate that a blocker exists.

  • Facilitate difficult conversations and help teams work through disagreements constructively.

  • Remain a neutral leader during conflict, focusing the conversation on how the team can move forward rather than taking sides.

  • Help establish an environment where team members feel comfortable debating ideas, expressing opinions, and challenging one another constructively.

  • Promote a collaborative team environment rather than individual "hero" or lone-wolf behaviors.

  • Continuously assess whether existing Agile processes are serving the team and adapt or evolve processes when appropriate.

  • Encourage thoughtful experimentation with new processes and ways of working, including capturing lessons from both successful and unsuccessful experiments.

  • Help teams progressively become more mature and self-sufficient, reducing the amount of tactical Scrum Master support required over time.

  • Participate in the broader Scrum Master community and contribute to continuous learning and process improvement.

Skills and Requirements

  • Senior-level Scrum Master experience, ideally 6+ years of experience.
  • Strong experience coaching software engineering or technical teams.
  • Experience supporting multiple teams simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach teams beyond simply facilitating Agile ceremonies.
  • Strong understanding of Agile/Scrum principles with a pragmatic and adaptable approach.
  • Ability to recognize and work through complex blockers, dependencies, and competing priorities.
  • Strong facilitation skills, particularly around difficult conversations and team conflict.
  • Ability to influence engineers and stakeholders without direct authority.
  • Strong situational awareness and ability to ask probing questions to uncover underlying team or delivery challenges.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Comfortable operating as a visible leader in a fully remote environment.
  • Able to work core hours of approximately 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM Central Time.
  • Experience supporting platform teams
  • Experience within integration-heavy environments
  • Financial services or banking experience
  • Experience working within large, complex enterprise technology organizations
