The opportunity

A Mechatronics Maintenance Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing complex automated machinery by utilizing a blend of mechanical, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, and control systems knowledge to diagnose faults, perform preventative maintenance, and ensure optimal equipment functionality within a production environment. Essentially, acting as a bridge between mechanical and electrical systems to troubleshoot and repair advanced automated equipment.

How you will impact Smurfit Westrock

Installation and Commissioning:

  • Setting up new automated machinery, including electrical wiring, mechanical assembly, and software configuration.

Preventative Maintenance:

  • Performing routine inspections and servicing of equipment to prevent breakdowns, including lubrication, cleaning, and calibration checks.

Fault Diagnosis and Repair:

  • Troubleshooting complex malfunctions by analyzing electrical, mechanical, and control system data to identify root causes and implement repairs.

System Upgrades and Modifications:

  • Implementing changes to existing systems to improve functionality, efficiency, or comply with new standards.

Data Analysis and Reporting:

  • Monitoring equipment performance through data analysis and generating reports to identify trends and potential issues.

Technical Documentation:

  • Interpreting engineering drawings, schematics, and technical manuals to understand system operation and repair procedures.

  • Creating documentation for equipment.

Safety Compliance:

  • Adhering to all safety protocols and procedures when working on machinery.

What you need to succeed

  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field.

  • Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Mechatronics, Electromechanical Engineering Technology, or a closely related discipline.

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in a technical manufacturing environment.

  • Mechatronics certification or a similar industry-recognized technical certification is preferred.

  • Technical expertise: Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.

  • PLC programming: Ability to read, write, and troubleshoot Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).

  • Troubleshooting skills: Excellent problem-solving abilities to diagnose complex equipment issues.

  • Computer literacy: Familiarity with computer-aided design (CAD) software and data analysis tools.

  • Hand tools proficiency: Ability to use a variety of hand tools for maintenance and repair tasks.

  • Reading blueprints and schematics: Understanding technical drawings and diagrams to navigate system layouts.

The starting rate is $51.92 - $54.00 per hour, depending on your role, level, and location. The benefits for this role may include short-term bonus incentive, health, dental and vision insurance, flexible spending accounts or health savings accounts, retirement savings plans, life and disability insurance programs, and paid sick leave as required by applicable state/local law, 5 days of paid vacation, and 7 days of paid holidays, subject to annual change.
