Job Summary

Marketing Communication Specialists

Support the development and execution of marketing and communications strategies that promote programs within University Connected Learning, including Continuing Education and UOnline. This role’s core responsibilities center on three areas: coordinating media marketing, managing email campaigns and communications, and coordinating public relations. Work spans email, digital, and public relations, with a focus on engaging audiences, storytelling, and helping shape future marketing strategy through data analysis.

Responsibilities

Marketing Communication Specialist, II

Media Marketing

  • Support integrated marketing and communications campaigns across email, digital, public relations, and other channels.

  • Assist with marketing and enrollment reporting by collecting, maintaining, and analyzing campaign data.

  • Maintain marketing dashboards and recurring reports to evaluate campaign performance and inform strategy.

  • Coordinate with internal marketing team, University departments, vendors, and other stakeholders on campaigns and promotional initiatives.

Email Campaigns & Management

  • Coordinate and execute email marketing campaigns, including audience segmentation, list management, scheduling, testing, deployment, and database maintenance.

  • Help administer and optimize email marketing platforms, maintaining accurate audience groups, segments, and subscription preferences.

Public Relations

  • Coordinate internal and external communications, including press releases, media pitches, articles, announcements, and promotional content.

  • Draft press releases, articles, and other communications that highlight the programs, people, and impact of Continuing Education and UOnline.

  • Support public relations efforts by coordinating media opportunities, maintaining editorial and PR calendars, and liaising with university departments, program partners, and media contacts.

Additional Duties

  • Stay current on University communications and marketing best practices through relevant meetings and working groups.

  • Perform other marketing and communications duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT : 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor’s degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).

Department may hire employee at one of the following job levels:

Marketing Communication Specialist, I: Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience or a master’s (or equivalency) degree.

Marketing Communication Specialist, II: Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 4 years or a master’s (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience.

Preferences

  • Experience with email marketing platforms such as My Emma, including campaign development, audience segmentation, list management, and performance reporting.

  • Experience with analytics and reporting tools such as Google Analytics, Agency Analytics, or Looker Studio, with the ability to collect, interpret, and communicate marketing performance data.

  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with experience developing content for different audiences and channels.

  • Experience with public relations, media outreach, and press or promotional materials.

  • Experience with CRM and marketing automation platforms such as Salesforce or Salesforce Marketing Cloud.

  • Strong organizational and project coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

  • Experience collaborating with creative teams, program partners, vendors, and other stakeholders.

  • Experience in higher education or a similarly complex organization is a plus.
