Lead meaningful change in public health as the Director of Legislative and Community Relations! This key leadership role provides strategic policy, administrative, and governmental guidance to executive leadership while overseeing legislative, governmental, and health equity relations. Eight years of experience in developing, managing, or evaluating health or social service programs; or in public health, public relations, social services, health services, health regulation, or administrative services; OR

Six years of full-time work experience in any field plus five years of experience in developing, managing, or evaluating health or social service programs; or in public health, public relations, social services, health services, health regulation, or administrative services; OR

A bachelor’s degree plus five years of experience in developing, managing, or evaluating health or social service programs; or in public health, public relations, social services, health services, health regulation, or administrative services; OR

An advanced degree or a Juris Doctorate plus four years of experience in developing, managing, or evaluating health or social service programs; or in public health, public relations, social services, health services, health regulation, or administrative services.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION: Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field. The official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be found here.Job Duties:• Coordinate and oversee legislative session activities, including bill development, drafting, tracking, analysis, and implementation of legislative instruments.

• Monitor legislative proceedings, including committee hearings and floor actions, and coordinate departmental participation, witness cards, and testimony.

• Manage relationships with federal, state, parish, and local elected officials and develop effective communication strategies regarding legislation, policies, and departmental initiatives.

• Develop and maintain legislative and governmental databases, correspondence, memoranda, and informational resources to support effective governmental relations.

• Lead the department’s equity and community relations efforts to ensure cultural and ethnic communities’ access to and outcomes from health services are incorporated into departmental planning and initiatives.

• Coordinate with executive leadership and internal stakeholders to align legislative, governmental, equity, and community relations strategies with the department’s mission and priorities.

• Oversee advisory boards, councils, data collection, reporting, and stakeholder engagement initiatives that support health equity and efforts to reduce health disparities.
