Resident Treatment Technician (Crisis Response Team)

The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Division of State-Operated Specialty Care, Bureau of Independence Mental Health Institute (IMHI) is seeking a Resident Treatment Technician to join our team! This is a full-time position working a varied schedule primarily in the evenings and includes an available shift differential of $0.90 per hour for second shift. The Crisis Response Team will provide essential safety functions in the patient care areas of the facility, including, but not limited to, being present on and observing patient wards and patient activity areas, monitoring the tone and milieu of each area and identifying potential situations that need to be addressed, de-escalating potentially volatile situations, responding to and participating in emergency codes on the wards including elopements, conducting ward/patient counts and/or security checks, interacting with patients utilizing approved de-escalation and interaction techniques designed to maintain a therapeutic milieu with a focus on positive interactions, assisting in the management, restraint, or seclusion of disruptive patients according to hospital policies and procedures to minimize injuries and maximize the safety of staff and patients, and portraying good role modeling skills in language, behavior, attitude, and personal interactions. Members of the Crisis Response Team will perform lead work responsibilities over Resident Treatment Worker (RTW) staff as delegated by a Registered Nurse and/or Charge Nurse and provide leadership to and competently direct, assign, and delegate tasks to RTW staff. This position will also assess training needs in relation to the proper application of restraints, participate in staff debriefings, create and deliver training to staff, and provide training to new staff during New Employee Orientation. Applicants will be required to complete a background check to be considered for this position. IMHI provides inpatient treatment and acute psychiatric services, including individualized treatment plans and support for children and adolescent patients to continue their education.
