Staff Accountant

Description

A growing North County construction company is looking for a Staff Accountant to join its accounting team and support multiple active projects. This is a hands-on role for someone who understands general accounting but also enjoys getting into the details behind project costs, subcontractors, billing, and job profitability.

What You’ll Do:

• Prepare and post journal entries

• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts

• Perform monthly bank and balance sheet reconciliations

• Assist with month-end and year-end close

• Track project-related labor, materials, and subcontractor expenses

• Review job costs and compare actual spending against budgets

• Assist with progress billing and customer invoices

• Reconcile subcontractor and vendor accounts

• Track retainage, deposits, and project-specific balances

• Assist with job profitability reporting

• Monitor AP and AR activity related to assigned projects

• Research unusual transactions and discrepancies

• Prepare financial schedules and management reports

• Assist with cash flow reporting

• Support external audits and tax requests

• Help maintain accounting procedures and internal controls

Requirements

• 2–4 years of accounting experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred

• Strong general ledger and reconciliation experience

• Understanding of month-end close

• Construction or project accounting experience strongly preferred

• Job costing experience is a major plus

• Strong Excel skills

• Excellent attention to detail

• Ability to work with multiple projects and deadlines
