This is a promotional posting open only to current permanent classified employees of the Louisiana Department of Revenue. At the Louisiana Department of Revenue we are dedicated to fairly and efficiently administering the state’s tax laws to ensure compliance while providing exceptional customer service. We’re looking for a Revenue Tax Specialist to join our Office of Debt Recovery Division! Six semester hours in accounting, business, economics, finance, management, information systems management, or quantitative methods plus one of the following:

Three years of experience in accounting, financial auditing, tax administration, tax policy or law, management analysis, or administrative services in a financial setting; OR

Six years of full-time work experience in any field; OR

A bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION: Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field. The official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be found here. Job Duties: In this role, you will:

  • Reviews reports, files, memos and payments to ensure collected funds are paid to the appropriate state agencies and in accordance with LOR policy, Louisiana statutes and the Agency Participation Agreements (APAs).
  • Monitors the Federal Vendor Payment Offset Program {VPOP). Ensures all payments are reconciled between Financial Services Division and ODR's Information System as well as making sure debt balances between ODR and the VPOP system remain in sync.
  • Resolves highly complex and technical issues concerning the various non-tax debt placed and administered by ODR. Requires extensive knowledge of a wide range of debt types including insurance cancellations, parish sales tax,parish clerk of court debt, hospital bills and student school fees.

Position-Specific Details: Appointment Type: This is a promotional posting open only to current permanent classified employees of the Louisiana Department of Revenue. Career Progression: This position may be filled as a Revenue Tax Specialist 1 or 2. Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.

This posting may be used to fill vacancies in other divisions available within the Louisiana Department of Revenue within 90 days of the closing date.

A Tax and Natural Disaster Clearance will be conducted on all selected applicants to validate the timely submission of tax returns and payments. It is a requirement that all Revenue employees must adhere to all tax laws of the State of Louisiana.

LA R.S.15:587.5, 587.6 and the IRS require the Louisiana Department of Revenue to conduct a criminal history records check of a prospective employee who will access federal tax information to perform job duties. Any applicant who receives and accepts a conditional offer of employment will require a completed criminal history records check prior to his or her first day of work.
