Summary:

This is an opportunity for an experienced life insurance underwriter who enjoys solving complex cases, building meaningful industry relationships, and influencing outcomes beyond traditional underwriting responsibilities. In this role, you'll partner with advisors, carrier underwriters, and internal teams to evaluate and position high-value life insurance cases, develop creative underwriting strategies, and advocate for clients when navigating challenging medical, financial, or impaired-risk scenarios. You'll serve as a trusted expert throughout the underwriting process, helping advisors secure the most competitive and appropriate solutions for their clients.

The position combines technical underwriting expertise with relationship management, consultation, and thought leadership. You'll collaborate with some of the industry's leading advisors and carriers, provide guidance on carrier strengths and underwriting approaches, contribute to educational initiatives, and help develop underwriting best practices across the organization!

Key Responsibilities

Serve as a senior underwriting consultant and subject matter expert on complex and impaired-risk individual life coverage cases.

Evaluate underwriting risk factors and develop case-specific strategies that optimize carrier placement and client outcomes.

Build and maintain positive relationships with advisors, carrier underwriting teams, and internal stakeholders to support business growth and service excellence.

Guide cases through the underwriting process by coordinating evidence collection, resolving technical issues, and facilitating communication among all parties.

Advocate for favorable underwriting outcomes through carrier negotiations, reconsiderations, and strategic case positioning.

Provide expertise on carrier underwriting philosophies, risk appetites, and marketplace opportunities to support advisor decision-making.

Contribute thought leadership through industry presentations, advisor education, process improvements, and collaboration with Wealth Transfer leadership.

Support organizational objectives through operational excellence, change leadership, accurate system utilization, and adherence to NFP values and standards.

Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities:

Deep expertise in individual life insurance underwriting, including detailed and challenging-risk case assessment, mortality analysis, financial underwriting, regulatory considerations, and product knowledge.

Proven track record to develop underwriting strategies, evaluate risk, and position cases effectively based on carrier guidelines, market opportunities, and client objectives.

Solid understanding of carrier underwriting philosophies, risk appetites, and placement strategies, with the ability to secure optimal outcomes for advisors and clients.

Outstanding communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across advisors, carrier partners, and members of our internal network.

Strong analytical judgment, problem-solving capabilities, and business acumen with the ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Leadership presence with experience providing technical expertise, thought leadership, education, mentoring, and process improvement initiatives.

Education and/or Experience:

College degree required, advanced degree a plus

Minimum 8-10 years of progressive underwriting experience

Certificates, Licenses, Registration:

Life Health License

Completion of FALU required, actively pursuing CLU is preferred.

The base salary range for this position is $86,500 - $110,000. The base salary offered will be determined by factors including, but not limited to, experience, credentials, education, certifications, skill level required for the position, the scope of the position, and geographic location. Actual base salary offered will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
