Job Description

This engineer will support one of our energy and utility clients for their Transmission Single Line Diagram (SLD) initiative by performing detailed engineering reviews of existing and newly created substation single line drawings. They will compare SLDs against engineering records, protection and control drawings, EMS data, project documentation, equipment records, and field information to verify electrical accuracy and ensure drawings accurately reflect actual substation configurations. Responsibilities include validating equipment connectivity, voltage levels, device designations, ownership boundaries, and station layouts; identifying and documenting discrepancies; coordinating required corrections with designers and engineers; and supporting field verification efforts when necessary. This role is critical to creating a trusted, standardized SLD product that supports engineering, operations, outage planning, switching activities, construction, and maintenance.

Skills and Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program Electrical engineering experience supporting transmission or substation systems Ability to interpret and review electrical drawings and schematics Experience with transmission substations and major substation equipment Strong understanding of electrical connectivity, voltage levels, and station configurations Experience reviewing engineering documentation and identifying discrepancies Strong documentation, communication, and organizational skills Proficiency working across multiple engineering and operational data sources High attention to detail and ability to work independently Utility industry experience, preferably within transmission engineering Experience with single line diagrams (SLDs), three-line diagrams, or protection & control drawings Familiarity with Duke Energy standards and document control processes Field verification or substation walkdown experience Knowledge of NERC CIP requirements
