Amazon Leo is Amazon's low Earth orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable broadband connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. From households to small businesses, schools, hospitals, and government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve communities and organizations operating in places without dependable internet access.

The Electrical Engineer will be a member of Amazon Leo's Inter-Satellite Link Avionics team, focusing on the design of the various electrical functions including analog sensor signal conditioning and processing, and overall monitoring and control across spacecraft interfaces.

Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Key job responsibilities

In this role, you will be expected to lead a variety of tasks, from board design and component selection, to layout review, board bring-up, system test and root cause analysis at the subsystem as well as system level. You will be responsible for ensuring high quality and innovative designs, while also supporting other colleagues with reviewing and improving board and other electrical designs.

We are looking for an engineer who combines superb technical and analytical capabilities with a demonstrated ability to get the right things done quickly and effectively. You will be expected to work with a team of top-notch engineers and collaborate with multiple other spacecraft design and integration teams. You should be comfortable with a high degree of autonomy and relish the idea of solving problems that haven't been solved at scale before. A day in the life

You will tackle challenging, novel situations every day and have the opportunity to work with multiple technical teams at Amazon in different locations. As an Electrical Engineer, your tasks would vary between board design, layout reviews, test plan development, qualification and root cause analysis. This is a cross-functional role requiring constant interaction with multiple HW/SW design teams and end-users.

Basic Qualifications

  • BS degree in electrical engineering or equivalent

  • 5+ years of hardware engineering experience

  • Experience with analog, digital, and high-speed circuit design

  • Experience with PCB design and debugging, including microprocessors, FPGAs, power supplies, ADCs and sensors

  • Experience with schematic and layout ECAD tools

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent

  • Experience with rapid iteration prototyping and joint hardware/firmware development; partnering with software engineers to bring-up and test new hardware designs

  • Experience with Mentor Xpedition or other Mentor ECAD tools

  • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Python or C/C+- Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment at volume

  • 4+ years of embedded firmware development experience

  • Experience in development and test of satellite bus systems

  • Experience with integration of systems into aerospace/avionics enclosures

  • Electronics design/qualification experience with radiation environments or radiation tolerant hardware

  • Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to explain complex concepts and designs to colleagues across disciplines

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
