Full job description

The University of Southern California (USC) was founded in 1880 and is the largest private employer in the city of Los Angeles. The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California is seeking a Division Chief of Gynecologic Oncology who is a fellowship trained, board certified gynecologic oncologist at the level of associate or professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology. This position is ideally suited to a mid-career faculty member.

The Division Chief of Gynecologic Oncology functions as the academic, clinical, and administrative leader of the division, advancing excellence in patient care, research, education, faculty development, and strategic growth across the Keck Medicine health system. This physician leader must have dedication for teaching and training future gynecologist oncologist as part of our fellowship program. Responsibilities will include providing subspecialty care in gynecologic oncology, including surgery, in- and outpatient consultation, chemotherapy management, and in- and outpatient management of patients with gynecologic cancers.

Qualifications:

  • MD degree with completion of a 4-year ACGME accredited Ob/Gyn residency.

  • Completion of Gynecologic Oncology Fellowship

  • Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and American Board of OB/GYN in Gynecologic Oncology

  • The successful candidate is expected to apply for a California medical license and be licensed to

practice medicine in California by the time of appointment.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in an academic medical environment

  • Prior experience as Division Chief or Director, Medical Director, or comparable leadership role preferred

  • Expertise in comprehensive gynecologic cancer management, including minimally invasive

surgery and chemotherapy.

  • Leadership & Scholarship- Demonstrated experience in leadership, teaching, and research;

strong publication record and funding history

  • Demonstrated success in:

  • Faculty mentorship and development

  • Research productivity and program building

  • Financial and operational management

  • Multidisciplinary collaboration within a cancer center structure

  • Recruitment and retention of faculty

Responsibilities:

Division Chief Duties:

  • Clinical Leadership: Lead a division of five gynecologic oncologists and two advanced practice

providers

  • Education & Training: Mentor and supervise residents, fellows, and students; ensure excellence

in medical education and clinical training programs

  • Research & Scholarship: The research responsibilities of this position include a track record of scholarship that is required for an academic promotion, including conducting and assisting in research projects and mentoring trainees; expansion of the current research portfolio within the division including development of high-impact research initiatives that inform clinical practice; secure research funding and publish in peer-reviewed journals

  • Program Development: Expand and strengthen the division’s clinical, educational, and research programs; align with departmental and institutional strategic goals

  • Collaboration: Partner with departmental and institutional leaders to set priorities, allocate resources, and foster a positive, inclusive team

Clinical responsibilities:

  • Scope: Balances clinical practice (70%–80% of time) with protected academic time for teaching

and research, and administrative time for Division Chief duties.

  • Provide comprehensive gynecologic oncology care, including open, robotic, and laparoscopic surgery, chemotherapy management, and consultation

  • Collaborate in multidisciplinary cancer care with radiation oncology, pathology, genomics, palliative care, social work, and patient-navigation services

  • Practice sites include Keck Medical Center of USC, USC Arcadia Hospital, USC Verdugo Hospital, and satellite clinics located in Arcadia, Pasadena, Verdugo Hills and Tarzana.

The position offers a salary with excellent university benefits and an academic appointment at the Keck

School of Medicine of USC commensurate with the level of training and experience.

The annual base salary for this position is $450,000-$500,000. Additionally, the chosen candidate will receive a signing bonus, housing allowance, and relocation costs.
