Full job description

About Collective: Collective is on a mission to redefine the way businesses-of-one work. Our technology and team of trusted advisors help members achieve financial independence by taking care of everything from business incorporation to accounting, bookkeeping, tax services, and access to a thriving community, all in one integrated platform. We believe in empowering self-employed people to enjoy the same tax savings that big companies get, so they can focus on their passion, not paperwork. Featured in Forbes, Business Insider, Yahoo, Bloomberg, Financial Times, TechCrunch, and more. We are backed by General Catalyst, Sound Ventures (Ashton Kutcher and Guy Oseary), QED Investors, Google’s Gradient Ventures, Expa, and other investors who have financed iconic companies like YouTube, Substack, Twitch, Box, Hims, Instacart, and Lyft. About the role: We're hiring a full-stack IC Lead Product Designer to own Accounting & Payroll, the most complex and highest-stakes part of how our members run their businesses. You'll partner directly with a Product Lead and Engineering team to turn messy financial workflows into experiences that feel clear, trustworthy and fast. You'll own the work end to end, help shape how we design and grow the team, and ship every day to solopreneurs who get their time back because of it. What you'll do:

  • Deeply understand our customers’ needs, business objectives, and state of the industry to imagine & bring to life paradigm-changing experiences.

  • Establish a high bar for visual polish and intuitive interaction patterns.

  • Clearly define customer and business problems. Explore broad-to-narrow solutions with thoughtful designs.

  • Ideate, design, launch and improve products to help advance Collective’s mission.

  • Work with a cross functional product development team (product managers, engineers, designers, operations, sales & marketing) to ship innovative and well-crafted experiences, for scale

  • Optimize for execution velocity while maintaining a high quality bar, making tradeoffs between design choices and resources available.

  • Contribute to growing a robust & refined design system

What you'll bring:

  • 5+ years of experience as a Product Designer

  • Demonstrated impact on product strategy and customer experience in previous roles, preferably within Fintech or Consumer Tech.

  • Outstanding UX capabilities and strong visual design competency, including visual, UI/UX, copy writing and systems-design.

  • Experience with and a high bar for visual polish and intuitive, simple design patterns.

  • Passion for turning complex problems into simple & engaging solutions.

  • Innate understanding of the end-to-end design process - from identifying customer needs and pain points to delivering exceptional customer experiences.

  • The ability to apply consumer insights and metrics to inform design decisions and influence the product roadmap

  • Strong systems thinker with the ability to connect the dots across the entire customer journey.

What we offer:

  • Hybrid Work Model: Based in San Francisco with a balance of in-office and remote flexibility.

  • Fresh Lunch: Provided on in-office days.

  • Commuter Support: $150 monthly reimbursement for transit expenses.

  • Health & Wellness: $200 quarterly reimbursement to support your well-being.

  • Time Off: Flexible PTO plus 14 company holidays.

  • Comprehensive Coverage: 100% medical, dental, and vision for employees; 75% coverage for dependents.

  • Parental Leave: 16 weeks fully paid.

  • Retirement & Ownership: 401k plan plus an equity package.

  • Team Connection: Quarterly virtual events and an annual in-person summit.
