Full job description

Custom machine shop in Mount Joy is looking for a Die Setter to set up metal stamping machinery to produce a variety of custom parts. Laid back environment on a smaller team with a 2nd generation family owned business. Interviews available ASAP!

1st shift: 7am - 3pm

Pay Range: $26-35/hr DOE

Job Description

The Die Setter is a full-time, on-site role at a precision metal stamping and toolmaking facility in Mount Joy, PA. You set up, adjust, and align stamping dies in production presses to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production runs. You work from blueprints and work orders, install and remove dies, perform test runs, and verify parts against specifications while collaborating closely with machine operators, engineers, and maintenance staff.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, install, align, and remove stamping dies in production presses according to blueprints, work orders, and established procedures.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and work instructions, including understanding tolerances and measurement requirements.

  • Load coils or material into presses and prepare equipment for production runs.

  • Perform test runs to verify that parts meet specifications and adjust press settings and tooling as needed.

  • Inspect parts for quality, identify defects, and perform basic root-cause checks during setup and test runs.

  • Troubleshoot issues with tooling, press performance, and part quality, making appropriate adjustments or coordinating with maintenance.

  • Use hand tools, measuring instruments such as calipers and micrometers, and basic inspection equipment to verify dimensions and quality.

  • Maintain accurate records of setups, adjustments, and production details as required.

Essential Skills

  • Hands-on experience with die setting, metal stamping, and operating production presses, including safely installing, aligning, and removing tooling.

  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and work instructions, with a solid understanding of tolerances and measurement requirements.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working with mechanical systems and production equipment.

  • Ability to use hand tools and measuring instruments such as calipers and micrometers, along with basic inspection equipment.

  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift and move tooling as required, and work in a manufacturing environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a tool and die, metal stamping, or precision manufacturing environment.

  • Apprenticeship or vocational training in machining or tool and die.

  • Experience working with CNC machines in a production or precision machining setting.

  • Experience in quality inspection and using inspection tools to verify part dimensions and quality.

Work Environment

This role is based on-site at a manufacturing plant in Mount Joy, PA that specializes in tool and die design, build, precision machining, and metal stamping. You work in a hands-on production environment with stamping presses, dies, coils, and related tooling, as well as basic inspection equipment and measuring instruments like calipers and micrometers. The standard schedule is 1st shift, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with optional overtime available once you are fully trained and performing well. The facility follows established shop safety practices, including lockout/tagout procedures and safe handling of heavy tooling and equipment, and expects team members to adhere to all safety and operating guidelines while working on the production floor.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mount Joy, PA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $35.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
