General Requirements:
Graduation from an approved nursing school and registration with the Texas Board of Nursing. Bachelor’s degree in nursing or a related field. Two years of experience as a practicing registered nurse in a recognized public health agency, hospital, or other related health care facility.
Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties:
Performs responsible professional nursing work according to recognized nursing and medical standards procedures prescribed by the University Health Clinic. Cares and treats patients according to accepted nursing and medical standards.
This is a part-time, benefits eligible position, working 24 hours per week. Specific hours and workdays to be determined.
Primary Responsibilities (Staff Positions Only):
Implements the Student Health Center’s ( SHC ) objectives and administrative policies. Maintains patient and staff confidentiality in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act ( FERPA ) regulations and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act ( HIPAA ). Practices within the boundaries of license. Complies with adverse incident reporting system and public health requirements. Performs triage to assess patient needs and direct appropriate level of care based on clinical indications. Identifies patient needs and implements nursing actions or involves medical provider to meet those needs. Administers oral, topical, and parenteral medications. Performs treatment and preventative measures in accordance with standard clinic procedures as prescribed by medical providers or standing delegated orders. Prepares and assists with gynecologic examinations, minor surgery, and assists where necessary to facilitate and coordinate patient care. Performs phlebotomy, point-of-care tests, and other laboratory tasks as assigned. Reliably documents pertinent information regarding patient care. Is adept at use of electronic health record ( EHR ). Works independently, solve problems and makes appropriate decisions within the scope of licensure. Collaborates with medical providers in the organization, planning, and delivery of care. Demonstrates organizational and prioritization skills. Assists team members and functions as a resource for other clinic staff. May be assigned to supervise other registered nurses (RNs), licensed vocational nurses (LVNs), medical assistants (MAs), and/or student workers. Performs routine office tasks such as filing, stocking, ordering and evaluation of supplies, scheduling, and patient follow ups. Performs other related duties as assigned.
