Full job description

The Position

Enterprise Architect - Pharma Commercial

The Opportunity

The Enterprise Architect - Pharma Commercial acts as the strategic bridge between the central Strategy, Portfolio & Governance (SPG) organization and Pharma Medicines. Operating within a federated model, you will orchestrate the global Pharma Commercial architecture network. Your primary focus will be translating business goals into adaptable, future-ready technology roadmaps across Market Access, Marketing, Customer Engagement, Analytics, and Commercial Operations.

Once hired, the actual title will be Domain Architect – Pharma Commercial.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with Business and Roche Digital Technology (RDT) leadership to align global and regional business priorities with multi-year technology roadmaps and target-state architectures.

  • Lead a federated network of embedded domain and solution architects. Establish shared strategic priorities, technology guardrails, and security/privacy standards.

  • Drive architectural success for high-impact initiatives, including customer engagement modernization (e.g., Elevate, AI-driven content supply chains, and patient strategy).

  • Develop and maintain commercial capability maps, target-state architectures, and technology inventories using tools like ArchiMEDES (SAP LeanIX).

  • Guide investment decisions alongside Portfolio Management by evaluating strategic impacts, maximizing platform reuse, and managing technical debt to optimize total cost of ownership (TCO).

  • Monitor emerging commercial technology trends and evaluate vendors to ensure a future-ready, optimized architecture.

  • Collaborate with legal, compliance, and cybersecurity teams to ensure all commercial architectures strictly adhere to global data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA) and patient data governance standards.

Who You Are

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, IT, or Science. A Master’s degree is preferred.

  • At least 10+ years of direct experience in IT and enterprise/domain architecture, with a proven history of migrating legacy commercial systems to modern, cloud-native ecosystems.

  • At least 5 years of experience in the biotech/pharma industry.

  • Proven track record navigating and influencing within a complex, matrixed, or federated global organization.

  • Deep domain expertise in global Pharma Commercial operations (Field CRM, Omnichannel Marketing, Market Access, and Patient Services).

Technical Skills

  • Strong expertise in modern digital tech stacks (e.g., Veeva, Salesforce) and high-volume integrations between front- and back-office systems.

  • Proficiency in architecting scalable data products, MDM (Master Data Management), and AI-driven commercial data solutions.

  • Highly skilled in designing pragmatic target-state architectures and evolving roadmaps aligned with complex business needs.

  • Familiarity with enterprise architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF) and agile/product-led delivery methodologies.

Leadership & Communication

  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate, inspire, and lead networks of architects via influence rather than authority (without direct reporting lines).

  • Serves as a trusted advisor to senior leadership with strong executive presence and business acumen.

  • Excels at translating complex architectural strategies into relatable, business-centric narratives that balance enterprise coherence with local agility.
