HIGHWAY WORKER I (2026 SUMMER/SEASONAL)

WASHINGTON COUNTY DPW

HIGHWAY WORKER I

Washington County Department of Public Works is currently accepting applications for several Highway Worker I openings for the 2026 summer season. Qualified candidates will perform manual labor including but not limited to the following:

Clearing brush and trees;

Operating chainsaws and chippers;

Mow median strips and shoulders, rake and sweep dirt and debris;

Clean gutters and catch basins, and operate pumps;

Break up pavement and underlying rock or soil;

Dig post holes and trenches;

Grade and backfill small areas with hand tools;

Operate tampers and small rollers;

Flagging for road construction.

Valid Class D drivers’ license isrequiredfor appointment .

RATE OF PAY : $21.69/ hour (no benefits included)

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING : Willingness to perform routine manual tasks; ability to lift heavy weights; ability to follow simple oral or written instructions; ability to work well with others; willingness to work under all weather conditions; dependability; mechanical aptitude; good physical condition.
