Job Description:

Are you a caring nursing assistant who wants to make a real difference? The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) is looking for Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) to join our team.

In this role, you will work closely with doctors and nurses to provide hands-on medical care for adults living with severe mental illness, past trauma, impulse control issues, and physical health needs. You will help our patients stay comfortable, build daily living skills, and feel supported every day.

What You Will Do

Direct Patient Care & Nursing Support

  • Help patients with basic daily needs like bathing, grooming, dressing, and moving safely in and out of bed.

  • Help patients with eating, including caring for individuals who need specialized tube feedings.

  • Gently turn and reposition bedridden patients to keep them comfortable and protect their skin.

  • Take vital signs (like blood pressure and temperature), measure weights, and collect specimens as needed.

  • Help patients practice self-care skills to help them gain as much independence as possible. Safety, Teamwork & Documentation

  • Help nurses check on each patient’s physical health and mental well-being.

  • Follow strict cleanliness and infection control steps to keep the unit clean and safe.

  • Use proper lifting techniques to protect both yourself and your patients from injury.

  • Write down clear notes about patient care and health checks in the medical record system.

  • Work closely with nurses, doctors, and counselors as an active member of the care team.

Preferred Experience & Requirements:

  • Experience providing direct nursing care in a skilled nursing facility, hospital, or mental health setting.
  • Ability to complete 24 hours of continuing education (in-service training) each year to keep your CNA certification active.
  • Ability to stay calm, patient, and supportive when working with adults with behavioral or mental health challenges.

Job Details

  • Shifts: This position is assigned to the Day Shift.
  • Background Check: State law requires a full national and state background check and drug screen as a condition of employment.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be certified as a Nursing Assistant and one (1) year of experience required at the lower-level Nursing Asst 1 (HCS050) or position equivalent.
