THE POSITION

The Corrections Plumbing Trade Instructor with the Department of Corrections gives you the chance to guide inmates through practical learning at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Somerset. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role delivers plumbing instruction and oversees daily training that strengthens both safety and vocational growth. As a Corrections Plumbing Trade Instructor, you will perform the following duties:

• Plumbing Instruction: Teach plumbing trade practices in classroom and on-the-job settings

• Training Oversight: Monitor inmate progress, maintain order, and review completed work assignments

• Work Guidance: Lead inmate work crews and assign daily schedules for plumbing projects

• Tool Management: Issue, track, and secure tools and materials used during training and work assignments

• Material Planning: Identify needed materials and submit purchase requests to support plumbing projects

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment, 40-hour work week

• Work hours are 7:15 AM to 3:15 PM, Monday - Friday.

• This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.

• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

• Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $53,036.00 (before taxes). A higher salary may be established in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Five years of experience in the inspection, maintenance, repair, assembly, and installation of pipes, fittings, and fixtures used in heating, water, and drainage systems;or

• Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the plumbing trade;or

• An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the plumbing trade.

• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

• You must be able to perform essential job functions.
