*Title:*Emergency Room Technician – Part-time – Days – Sharon Hospital

*Shift:*24-hours, days, three, 8-hour shifts per week: 8am-4pm with varying weekdays, alternating weekends and holidays.

Summary: Responsible for the assessment and basic management of medical, trauma and environmental emergencies under the supervision of on or off-line medical control. Assists with patient care based on individual patient needs within the scope of practice under the direct supervision of the ED Registered Nurse.

Responsibilities:

  • Recognizes and reports appropriate data to the registered nurse.

  • Assists registered nurse and physicians with assessments, examinations, and treatment.

  • Provides general nursing care – positioning, lifting, turning, and assisting with ambulation.

  • Performs other duties as in-service, including crutch walking, dressing changes, and assisting physician with splint or cast application, application of ace bandages and strapping devices.

  • Adheres to hospital policy addressing standard precautions, safety regulations, and guidelines.

  • Assists patients from vehicle into wheelchair or onto gurney, as need dictates.

  • Takes and records temperature, pulse, BP and I&O.

  • Responds to patient and visitor questions and needs immediately and within established standards.

  • Maintains and prepares rooms between patients and procedures.

  • Properly assists with preparation of equipment for procedures.

  • Obtains IV supplies for registered nurse or physician as requested.

  • Monitors stock and restock supplies as needed in the Emergency Department.

  • Transports patients and supplies to diagnostic departments, nursing units.

  • Prepares patients for meals and assists, as necessary.

  • Participates in continuing education and departmental in-service meetings.

  • Maintains policies and procedures established by the department.

  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-services meetings and workshops; shows responsibility for ongoing education.

  • Documents in record, procedures performed, and care given.

  • Obtains patient specimens.

  • Performs phlebotomy and EKGs.

  • Performs Quality Control (QC) on spec meter.

  • Cleans supplies and instruments per procedure guidelines.

  • Assists in cost containment through the appropriate ordering and conserving of supplies and equipment.

  • Operates equipment safely and correctly.

  • Maintains a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, hospital staffs.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • 1 year of experience in acute care (nursing home or Hospital environment).

  • BLS Certification.

Highly Desirable:**

  • EMT experience

  • EMT- License

  • Medical terminology
