Job Description

Position Summary

The Global Trade Compliance Specialist is responsible for ensuring the compliant, efficient, and timely import of products and materials into the United States. This role supports BD's global supply chain operations through customs compliance, import execution, broker management, regulatory coordination, and trade program administration.

The successful candidate will serve as a key resource for import compliance, customs regulations, HTS classification, Partner Government Agency (PGA) requirements, and broker performance management while partnering with internal stakeholders, suppliers, customs brokers, and government agencies to facilitate compliant international trade operations.

Key Responsibilities

Import Operations & Customs Compliance

  • ManageimporttransactionstoensurethetimelyandcompliantclearanceofproductsandmaterialsintoBDfacilitiesandcustomerlocations.

  • ClassifyimportedproductsusingHarmonizedTariffSchedule(HTS)codesinaccordancewithU.S.Customsregulations.

  • DetermineandmaintainaccuratePartnerGovernmentAgency(PGA)datarequirements,includingFDA,USDA,EPA,andotherapplicableagencies.

  • CollaboratewithRegulatoryAffairsandbusinesssubjectmatterexpertstoobtainproductinformationrequiredforHTSclassificationandPGAcompliance.

  • ReviewcommercialinvoicesandimportdocumentationtoensurecompliancewithU.S.Customsrequirementsandresolvediscrepanciesasneeded.

  • ProvideclearanceinstructionstocustomsbrokersandfacilitatethereleaseofshipmentsheldbyCustoms,FDA,orothergovernmentagencies.

  • Communicateimportrequirementsanddocumentationexpectationstosuppliersandvendors.

Trade Compliance & Special Programs

  • Manageimportsundertariffmitigationprograms,including:

  • FirstSaleforExport(FSFE)

  • NairobiProtocol

  • TemporaryImportBond(TIB)

  • Interpretimportregulationsandprovideguidancetosupportcompliantbusinessoperationsandtradestrategies.

  • Conductimportentryauditsandpost-entryreviewstoensurecompliance,brokerdeclarationaccuracy,andproperrecordretention.

  • Supportcontinuousimprovementinitiativesrelatedtoimportcomplianceandtradeprocesses.

Customs Broker Management

  • Managecustomsbrokerrelationshipsandmonitorserviceperformance.

  • EnsurecustomsbrokersunderstandandexecuteBDimportproceduresandStandardOperatingProcedures(SOPs).

  • OverseeImporterSecurityFiling(ISF)complianceandbrokerperformance.

  • Addressoperationalissuesimpactingshipmentclearance,compliance,orservicelevels.

  • MaintainandupdatebrokerimportSOPsasregulatoryorbusinessrequirementschange.

Systems & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Manageimport-relatedEDItransactionsandtroubleshootsystem-relatedissues.

  • PartnerwithGlobalTransportation,Procurement,RegulatoryAffairs,DistributionCenters,MasterDataManagement,andotherstakeholderstoensureimportcompliancerequirementsaremet.

  • SupportthedevelopmentandimplementationofstandardizedimportprocessesacrossBDbusinessunits.

  • UtilizeERPandGlobalTradeManagement(GTM)systemstosupportimportoperationsandtradecomplianceactivities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor'sdegree.

  • 3–5yearsofexperienceinglobaltradecompliance,importoperations,customsbrokerage,orarelatedinternationaltradefunction.

  • Strongknowledgeof:

  • U.S.Customsregulations

  • HTSClassification

  • CustomsValuation

  • Incoterms

  • ImportDocumentationRequirements

  • FDAandPartnerGovernmentAgencyimportrequirements

  • ExperienceworkingwithERPsystemssuchasSAPandGlobalTradeManagement(GTM)software.

  • Excellentwrittenandverbalcommunicationskillswiththeabilitytoeffectivelycommunicateacrossmultiplefunctions,cultures,andorganizationallevels.

  • Abilitytomanagemultipleprioritiesinafast-pacedenvironment.

  • ProficiencywithMicrosoftOfficeapplications,particularlyExcel.

  • MustholdacurrentU.S.CustomsBrokerLicense(CBL)orbeactivelypursuingone,including:

  • PreparingtoenrollinCustomsBrokerLicensecoursework.

  • CurrentlyenrolledinCustomsBrokerLicensetrainingorcoursework.

  • RecentlycompletedCustomsBrokerLicensepreparationcourseworkandplanningtositfortheexamination.

Work Authorization Requirement

  • Applicantsmustbeauthorizedtoworkfor ANY employerintheUnitedStates.Weareunabletosponsorortakeoversponsorshipofanemploymentvisaatthistime.
