About the Role

The Master Electrician is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and installing electrical distribution systems and associated electrical equipment throughout RTS facilities. This position also performs a variety of building maintenance and repair tasks, supporting the upkeep of transit facilities through work in electrical systems as well as general building trades including carpentry, plumbing, masonry, concrete finishing, and remodeling projects.

What You'll Do

  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical distribution systems and equipment.

  • Connect wiring to circuit breakers, transformers, motors, and other electrical components.

  • Inspect electrical systems and equipment to identify hazards, code violations, and repair needs.

  • Test electrical systems using meters, oscilloscopes, and other diagnostic equipment.

  • Plan electrical installations based on project specifications and applicable electrical codes.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.

  • Install conduit, wiring, electrical fixtures, switches, outlets, and related equipment.

  • Repair or replace electrical wiring, fixtures, and electrical components.

  • Work from ladders, scaffolding, lifts, and rooftops when required.

  • Perform physically demanding work, including trenching, lifting, and moving materials.

  • Perform general building maintenance including carpentry, plumbing, masonry, concrete repair, and remodeling projects.

  • Advise management regarding electrical safety concerns and equipment reliability.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).

  • Current Master Electrician (Three-Phase) license issued by the City of Rochester Electrical Examining Board.

  • Valid New York State driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.

  • Must possess a complete set of tools necessary to perform assigned work.

  • Must obtain a New York State CDL Class B permit with passenger and air brake endorsements prior to employment.

  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience maintaining commercial, industrial, or municipal electrical systems.

  • Experience performing general building maintenance and repairs.

  • Experience working in a transportation, manufacturing, or industrial environment.

  • Experience using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), including Trapeze EAM.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of electrical installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.

  • Ability to diagnose electrical system failures using testing equipment and hand tools.

  • Knowledge of applicable electrical codes and safety regulations.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and computerized maintenance systems.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Ability to prioritize multiple assignments while maintaining quality workmanship.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
