Shop Foreman – Fire Apparatus Service & Repair

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Shop Foreman to lead daily operations in our fire apparatus service department. This role is ideal for a hands-on leader who can manage workflow, support technicians, maintain quality standards, and help drive shop efficiency.
Position Summary
The Shop Foreman oversees the day-to-day activities of the service shop, ensuring repairs, maintenance, refurbishments, and inspections are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards. This individual serves as the technical and operational leader for shop technicians while coordinating closely with service management, parts, and customers.
Key Responsibilities

Supervise and support technicians in daily shop operations

Assign and prioritize work based on scheduling, technician skill level, and customer needs

Monitor repair quality, productivity, and job completion timelines

Assist technicians with diagnostics, troubleshooting, and complex repairs

Ensure all work is performed safely and in compliance with company policies and industry standards

Review repair orders, technician notes, and completed work for accuracy

Coordinate with the parts department to ensure timely availability of parts and materials

Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient shop environment

Provide coaching, training, and mentorship to technicians and apprentices
-
Participate in technician performance evaluations and development planning
-
Support emergency road service and customer uptime needs when necessary

Communicate effectively with service advisors, management, and customers regarding repair status and technical concerns

Promote a positive team culture focused on accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement
Qualifications
-
Previous experience as a lead technician, foreman, or supervisor in heavy-duty truck, diesel, fleet, or fire apparatus repair
-
Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities

Knowledge of diesel engines, electrical systems, hydraulics, aerial systems, pumps, and apparatus components preferred

Ability to lead and motivate a team in a fast-paced environment

Excellent communication and organizational skills

EVT and/or ASE certifications preferred

CDL license preferred or willingness to obtain

Computer proficiency with service software and repair documentation

Strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship
