Full job description

The float Nurse will work under the supervision of the Manager and/or Director to deliver direct patient care following the American Nurses Association (ANA) standards of practice, Ohio Revised Code, and Holzer Nursing Model of Care. The Licensed Practical Nurse works under the supervision of the RN to provide nursing care according to unit/hospital policies and procedures. They provide nursing care to patients with conditions, which require knowledge and technical skills. Assist with patient teaching. May be required to work on other nursing units where they are competent, according to the distribution of staff and patients. Performs other duties as assigned.

The Nurse will be responsible for scheduling their shifts on the schedule to reflect when they are available to work. Based on where the greatest need for shift coverage is, the nurse will be assigned to work in one of the following departments: cardiac care, medical/surgical care, or patient rehabilitation prior to the start of their shift. If the need for coverage changes at any point during this shift, the nurse may be reassigned to cover that need. Tier Nurses with specific competencies in specialized areas, may work in those units.

Education, Work Experience and Licensure:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing.

  • BLS Required

  • Previous acute care experience preferred

  • Active nursing license required by the Ohio Board of Nursing. Successful completion of pharmacy course, NAPNES, OOPNES, or OBN certificate.

  • Successful completion of OBN approved IV therapy course.

TIER 1:

  • Minimum 24 hours every week. Shift and weekend differential will be included.

  • 2 shifts per pay period must be weekend shifts.

TIER 2:

  • Minimum 36 hours every week. Shift and weekend differential will be included.

  • 2 shifts per pay period must be weekend shifts.

TIER 3:

  • Minimum 36 hours every weekend (Friday-Sunday). Shift and weekend differential will be included.

  • When scheduling, nurse must take into account number already scheduled nurses.

  • Tier 3 will work every holiday that fall on weekends.
