Job Description

Job Description:

Mechanical Project Engineer – Automated Fulfillment Center Projects

Are you a motivated Mechanical Engineer ready to take ownership of complex automated fulfillment projects while developing the next generation of engineers? We’re seeking an ambitious Mechanical Project Engineer to join our team, lead the delivery of large‑scale logistics and automation projects, and mentor junior engineers as they grow.

In this role, you will own and execute the mechanical design of automated fulfillment center systems from concept through installation. You’ll work independently on most tasks, collaborate with cross‑functional partners, and provide direct oversight and mentorship to junior engineers—ensuring high‑quality work and strong technical development.

Key Responsibilities1. Mechanical Design & Engineering

Own and develop subsystem layouts for automated material handling systems with minimal oversight.

Independently select and specify conveyor types, third‑party equipment, and system components.

Coordinate with electrical, controls, and structural engineering teams to ensure integrated solutions.

Deliver complete 3D models and manage clash detection for assigned project areas.

  1. Project Execution & Delivery

Manage mechanical engineering deliverables, schedules, and quality standards.

Coordinate with construction teams to resolve layout conflicts and support efficient installation.

Lead communication with on‑site teams, making decisions to address field issues.

Produce complete installation packages ready for construction.

Monitor progress of subsystem engineers and ensure deliverables meet timelines.

Enter and peer‑review mechanical equipment orders to ensure accuracy and timely release to manufacturing.

  1. Technical Leadership & Mentorship

Perform and validate system and component calculations (throughput, motor power, belt pull, structural loads).

Engineer solutions for custom parts and non‑standard applications.

Mentor junior engineers on design standards, technical approaches, and problem‑solving methods.

Review and approve work from junior engineers, providing clear feedback and direction.

Assign project tasks based on skill level and development needs.

Teach best practices and help engineers build strong technical capabilities.

  1. Quality Ownership & Problem‑Solving

Ensure mechanical designs meet all safety, regulatory, and performance standards.

Review calculations, designs, and equipment orders for accuracy and completeness.

Identify and resolve design issues proactively throughout all project phases.

Apply lessons learned to improve current and future work.

Make informed technical decisions and document rationale for installation teams.

Key Job Responsibilities

Translate customer drawings and specifications into fully functional mechanical conveyor systems.

Optimize mechanical system designs within budget while coordinating with other disciplines.

Own 3D modeling and clash detection management for project sub‑areas.

Produce complete 2D customer approval and installation drawings.

Perform and validate spatial analysis (clearances, egress pathways, etc.).

Execute and review system‑level calculations with minimal oversight.

Engineer custom parts for non‑standard applications.

Apply safety regulations and ergonomic standards to all designs.

Create complete conveyor manifests aligned with electrical and controls requirements.

Document engineering decisions through clear installation files and instructions.

Oversee junior engineer deliverables, ensuring quality and completeness.

Provide technical guidance on complex design challenges.

Travel to sites for surveys, audits, and field issue resolution.

Lead installation support and commissioning activities.

Develop engineers through hands‑on mentorship and structured feedback.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering.

3–5 years of relevant engineering experience.

Proven ability to execute projects with minimal supervision.

Experience with project planning and deliverables tracking.

Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD, Navisworks, BIM360, and ACC.

Experience providing technical guidance or mentorship to junior engineers.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in material handling, logistics, or construction industries.

Ability to think conceptually and translate ideas into detailed system designs.

Strong decision‑making skills with the ability to act independently.

Effective communicator who sets clear expectations and follows through.

Ability to prioritize and manage time‑sensitive situations without guidance.

Ownership mindset with commitment to project completion and team development.

Proven ability to solve complex problems and research solutions independently.

Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Patient teacher who can explain complex concepts clearly.

Ability to delegate effectively while balancing personal execution and oversight.
