Job Summary

Looking for a skilled Concrete Specialist to join our team! The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with concrete mixing, pouring, and finishing, ensuring high-quality work on various construction projects. Responsibilities include preparing and leveling surfaces, installing forms, and working with a team to complete projects on time. Must have strong attention to detail, physical stamina, and a commitment to safety standards.

The Concrete Specialist leads a crew in the maintenance and repair of streets, sidewalks, driveways, alleys, drainage and asphalt repairs. Knowledge of proper equipment used in the repair and maintenance of streets and storm drainage systems. Must have the ability to place and finish concrete and ensure all proper grades and elevations are set and followed. Must have the ability to issue oral and written instructions and to communicate with the general public and crew members.

Duties

  • Leads crews performing construction and maintenance activities for streets, sidewalks, driveways, alleys, drainage and asphalt repairs; prioritizes and assigns tasks; assures that all safety rules and regulations are observed on the job site. Cuts lumber and sets forms; cuts, lays and ties re-bar using steel cutter and re-bar ties. Provides technical support to assist division staff in the completion of their duties and responsibilities; provide functional and technical leadership and training as needed.

  • Assists with preparation of concrete base including; setting wood forms, positioning steel, measuring and pouring concrete, finishing concrete, removing wooden forms, backfilling and cleaning site.

  • Mixes concrete in cement mixer; fills wheelbarrow and pushes to box or pouring site; pours concrete. When making boxes, fill the wheelbarrow with blocks or bricks and deliver it to the finisher.

  • Checks truck, obtains supplies, equipment, and materials. Loads truck with bricks, blocks, lumber, mortar, generator, wheelbarrow, sand, etc. cleans assigned equipment and related tools daily as required.

  • Drives to the job-site and prepares site for work; sets out work zones for job site in accordance with the TMUTCD and MUTCD.

  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).

  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record (must obtain TX driver’s license within 90 days).

  • Valid State of Texas Class "B" Commercial Driver’s License.

  • One year of directly related experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to operate machinery and equipment. Ability to work with concrete and read blueprints. Knowledge of the construction of forms, box tops, street slabs, curbs, gutters, and driveways. Ability to give orders and lead concrete crews. Ability to get along appropriately with co-workers and the public. Reading and understanding construction blueprints, plans and specifications. Safe and efficient operation and maintenance of trucks and equipment according to standard operating and safety procedures. Promoting and enforcing safe work practices. Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.
