Examples of Duties

What You’ll Do

  • Provide individual and group therapy using trauma-informed, recovery-oriented, and evidence-based practices.

  • Complete clinical assessments, diagnoses, treatment plans, and documentation in alignment with Medi-Cal and county standards.

  • Support clients experiencing a wide range of mental health needs, including co-occurring conditions, through ongoing therapy and care coordination.

  • Partner with case managers, psychiatrists, crisis staff, hospitals, and community agencies to ensure clients receive the right care at the right time.

  • Participate in team meetings, clinical consultations, and program development efforts that strengthen services for adults in our community

This position is part-time temporary; part-time employees work an average of 20 hours but not more than 29 hours per week, for a maximum of 960 hours per fiscal year. Temporary employees earn sick leave but are not eligible for other vacation or holiday pay, medical, dental, or vision benefits, or CalPERS.

Education and Experience Required

Behavioral Health Therapist I:

A Master’s degree from an accredited college or university, or from a school, college, or university that is approved by the Board of Behavioral Sciences, or meeting the educational requirement of 48 semester/trimester or 72 quarter units of master’s level coursework to accrue hours for Supervised Professional Experience (SPE), per the Board of Psychology.

Behavioral Health Therapist II:

In addition to the above, completion of supervised clinical experience sufficient to qualify for licensure.

Behavioral Health Therapist - Licensed:

Possession of California License with one year of clinical experience in a community mental health program.

Licenses and Certificates

All levels:

Possession of a valid driver's license within 30 days of hire. A valid Class C driver's license must be maintained throughout employment in this class to perform the essential functions of the position.

Behavioral Health Therapist I and Behavioral Health Therapist II: Registration as an intern for licensure with the California Board of Behavioral Science Examiners or meeting requirements as defined by the Board of Psychology to accrue hours of Supervised Professional Experience (SPE), or licensed in another State.

Behavioral Health Therapist - Licensed: Pursuant to Section 5600 of the Welfare and Institutions Code, must possess a valid California license as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker; Marriage, Family Therapist; or Psychologist (with an earned doctorate degree in psychology, educational psychology, education with a field of specialization in counseling psychology or education with a field of specialization in educational psychology); or, pursuant to Section 4999.20(a)(3)(A) of the Business and Professions Code, must possess a valid California license as a Professional Clinical Counselor.

Sick Leave:

Temporary County employees shall accrue at the rate of one (1) hour of sick leave for each thirty (30) hours worked. Temporary County employees can accrue a maximum of 80 hours of sick leave which may be carried over from one fiscal year to the next.

Medical Benefits:

Temporary employees whose assignments average 30 hours per week or more are eligible to enroll in County-sponsored medical benefits.
