Hours: 8-hour shifts 6:00AM - 2:30PM
Location: Riverview Regional Medical Center – Gadsden, AL
We are seeking a Histo Tech, otherwise known as a Histotechnician to be responsible for the preparation of tissue specimens for microscopic examination by the pathologist. This role performs a variety of histology procedures including grossing assistance, fixation, processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining of tissue samples. The Histotechnician ensures high-quality, accurate, and timely specimen preparation in compliance with laboratory policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements. The position also supports immunohistochemistry processes, equipment maintenance, and quality assurance activities to ensure optimal diagnostic outcomes and efficient laboratory operations.

Unlicensed personnel require direct and constant supervision by the Laboratory Director or licensed designee (Business and Professions Code 1269).

The duties of the Histotechnician consist of but are not limited to
-
Preparation of specimens for microscopic evaluation by the Pathologist through the use of a microtomy, special staining, histochemistry, and other appropriate techniques in accordance with the Pathology policy and procedures

Must be versed in a range of procedures including processing, cutting, embedding of all types of tissue and body fluid samples

The performance of routine and special staining procedures

Knowledge of immunohistochemical staining procedures if applicable to job duties

Use and maintenance of histology equipment

Maintenance of manuals, logs and files appropriate to the department

Other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned by the department manager/director
Qualifications Qualifications Section

High School Diploma or Equivalent required.

Minimum 1 year experience as a Histotechnician (Non-Certified) required.

Certified Histotechnician (HT/ASCP) - preferred.
