Phlebotomist I – Lab Collection | Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA

Looking to start a career in Phlebotomy or expand your lab experience? Join Guthrie as a per diem Phlebotomist I and receive on-the-job training in our laboratory team.

What You’ll Do:

  • Collect blood and other specimens using proper patient identification, labeling, handling, and transport procedures.

  • Work with a hospital lab team focused on quality results, timely service, and a positive patient experience.

  • Support inpatient and outpatient lab needs, including specimen processing, lab orders, and patient service.

Shift:

  • Flexible schedule!

  • Per diem - may be required to cover various shifts, depending on departmental needs and flexibility.

  • Training is day shift, Monday-Friday.

Position Summary:

Responsible for the collection of blood and other specimens from all patient populations using prescribed procedures with accuracy, skill, professionalism, and superb customer service. Duties may require on and off-site phlebotomy, specimen transport and specimen delivery duties. Other specialized duties include patient registration, patient lab order management, processing specimens for testing, blood study kit handling, lab order entry, and acting as a first responder to emergency codes.

Education & License:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Experience:

  • Completion of a phlebotomy training program or equivalent experience is desired.

  • Medical terminology and/or knowledge of basic anatomy is preferred.

  • Computer keyboard skills and navigation are required.

Essential Functions:

As a phlebotomist, you will be responsible for obtaining quality blood samples using a variety of phlebotomy methods (venous and capillary) using standard safety equipment from all age groups with strict adherence to regulatory requirements and collection procedures. You may be required to provide rapid response to medical emergencies such as traumas and codes. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Accurate patient identification, quality specimen labeling, handling, and transportation.

  • Working with a variety of computer programs/systems.

  • Utilizing excellent customer relations and communication skills in performing phlebotomy

  • Answering the phone and interacting with patients, nurses, providers, and other health care professionals to ensure high customer satisfaction.

  • Demonstrating a positive and professional demeanor.

  • Working independently as well as within a team.

  • Demonstrating skills in coping, understanding, following written and verbal instructions, organization and prioritization, attention to detail, problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision making.

  • You will actively partner with team members by fostering an inclusive work environment and respecting others with different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.

Other Duties:

  • Phlebotomists may be required to support evening, night, weekend, or holidays shifts for both outpatient and inpatient specimen collection.

  • Phlebotomists may be required to travel to perform specimen collections.

  • Other duties as assigned.
