Full job description

Gas Plant Operator

Location: Dry Creek Landfill – Eagle Point, OR

Company: Rogue Waste Systems

Job Type: Full-Time

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM (or until work is complete)

On-Call Requirement: One week of 24/7 on-call duty per month. Must have reliable transportation and be able to respond within 1–2 hours.

Compensation: $85,000–$90,000 annually + 10% annual cash bonus

Probationary Period: 90 days

Position Summary

The Gas Plant Operator is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of landfill gas processing equipment and related systems. This role monitors and controls plant performance through SCADA, DCS, and PLC systems while ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.

The ideal candidate is dependable, mechanically inclined, and solutions-oriented, with the ability to work independently and communicate effectively with team members, contractors, and site leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, and optimize plant equipment and processes to ensure safe and reliable performance.

  • Monitor and adjust operating parameters, including pressure, temperature, flow rates, and electrical/mechanical systems.

  • Perform routine inspections and identify abnormal operating conditions, equipment issues, or process deviations.

  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and process-related problems using system data, trends, and alarms.

  • Support maintenance activities, including equipment isolation, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and startup procedures.

  • Respond to alarms, process upsets, and emergency situations to stabilize operations and minimize risk.

  • Execute emergency response procedures, including emergency shutdowns (ESD), when required.

  • Maintain compliance with company policies, OSHA standards, and environmental regulations.

  • Accurately document operating data, incidents, inspections, and corrective actions.

  • Read and interpret technical documents, including P&IDs, SOPs, and equipment manuals.

  • Communicate operational updates, equipment concerns, and maintenance needs to appropriate personnel.

  • Assist with inventory tracking and ordering of parts and supplies.

  • Respond to after-hours callouts, emergencies, and operational needs as required.

Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

  • Ability to pass a criminal background check, drug screening, and motor vehicle record (MVR) review.

  • Experience in plant operations, landfill gas systems, industrial equipment, utilities, mechanical maintenance, or a similar industrial environment preferred.

  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to use hand tools and perform routine equipment inspections.

  • Basic computer skills and proficiency with logs, email, and monitoring systems.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform the physical demands of the role.

  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and scheduled on-call rotations as needed.
