Job Duties

Location: Silver Bay, MN

Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate opportunity for a Section Manager Maintenance position at our Northshore Mining facility in Silver Bay, MN. The primary responsibility will be to lead the Pellet Plant maintenance team in the safe execution of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance work in accordance with Cliffs maintenance standards in order to meet the goals of the Pellet Plant. Position also has responsibility for the Filter Building, Pellet Plant, Yards and Docks maintenance planning and execution while working with the reliability team in monitoring and improving the application of the predictive and preventive maintenance systems to enable the site to meet its operating strategy. This position also has oversight of the Plant Central Shops and Plant, Basin Truck Shop and Material Handling groups.

Summary of Responsibilities:

Provide direct supervision for the Plant Maintenance leadership team in Pellet Plant, Central Shops, Truck Shop, and Material Handling groups.

Manage the process of break-in work prioritization and decision making in each maintenance work group and coordinate this process with the Operations Section Manager and Supervisors.

Develop a maintenance budget and present to senior Northshore Management for approval.

Evaluate all stationary and mobile equipment utilizing the Reliability team to implement effective PM programs to improve overall equipment performance.

Work with Maintenance leadership team to ensure maintenance technician workforce is fully engaged in working in a safe, efficient and productive manner.

Work with representatives in safety and environmental departments to ensure compliance and proper reporting to ensure regulatory compliance in areas of responsibility.

Manage the maintenance planning and input into the scheduling process at the Pellet Plant within the parameters of the operating goals of the plant, the approved maintenance budget, and the resources of the asset management department.

Manage the training requirements of each maintenance work group.

Analyze conformance and trends of sources of deviations from the maintenance plan delivery and develop action plan to reduce deviations.

Maintain a long-term staffing plan with the Plant Maintenance Area Manager to ensure consistent ability of the maintenance department to support the operating plan/strategy.

Manage the planning, scheduling, and execution of the furnace outages and annual down within the approved scope and budget.

Utilize reliability team to identify the cause of equipment downtime and develop and implement solutions to prevent future failures.

Provide oversight for major equipment repairs and facilities projects.

Work with the procurement manager and maintenance staff to monitor vendor performance and provide needed feedback.

Minimum Requirements:

Related Bachelor degree (i.e. Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering) or other related degree - OR related 2-year Vocational or AA degree with a minimum of 5 years industry related experience.

Minimum of 5 years working experience in related maintenance work with mobile and fixed assets.

Minimum of 2 years leadership experience.

Budget preparation and ability to prepare operating and capital plans for short and long-range plans.

Champion of safe production and promote continuous improvement.

Must understand and be able to communicate and implement safety, mine, environmental policies and procedures.

Must possess leadership skills necessary to direct the flow to multiple departments to keep business running efficiently and effectively.

Possess strong computer skills; Microsoft Office experience, Access experience, and MS Project knowledge; preference for individuals with computerized maintenance management system experience.

Able to plan and coordinate multiple work tasks with a variety of employees, departments and outside contractors.

Must be able to think logically using factual data and structure ideas to influence others.

Able to make sound, timely decisions under conditions of uncertainty and risk; able to multi-task and work well under stressful conditions.

Must be able to facilitate the development of employees by providing constructive feedback and continuous coaching.

Must be capable of working effectively and safely using a participative management style.

The salary range for this role is $115,000 - $145,000. An employee's pay within the salary range will be based on numerous factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, geographic location and business or organizational needs.
