Seconds count in an emergency and people count on Indian River Hospital’s Emergency Department to provide high quality, compassionate care. Indian River Hospital’s Emergency Department has multi-disciplinary care teams, and the leading-edge technology needed to diagnose and treat patients effectively, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. As an RN on the Emergency Department team , you will deliver exceptional care throughout the patient care journey. In this role, you will interact directly with patients and their families, offering the opportunity to enhance their experience and provide healthcare education as needed. Here, you will be able to advance your nursing skills within a busy Emergency Department and follow the path to taking on leadership roles down the line.

A caregiver in this position works evenings from 7:00PM – 3:30AM .

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Provide direct nursing care.

  • Implement, monitor, evaluate, update and revise patient care plans.

  • Monitor, record, document and communicate patients’ conditions.

  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments.

  • Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.

  • Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge needs.

  • Educate patients and their families .

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing ( Diploma, ADN or BSN program)

  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) C ertification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or ALS through the American Red Cross within one year of hire

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) C ertification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within one year of hire

  • One year of current acute care RN and/or Emergency Department experience. Will consider licensed military RN experience

  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC - adult) or Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC - pediatric) upon hire or within 24 months of beginning work in the Emergency Department

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Bachelor ’s of S cience in N ursing (BSN)

  • Background as an ER tech/EMT/paramedic or completion of ER practicum or preceptorship if a new grad

  • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) and/or Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) Certifications

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
