Duties Description This position is located at the Brownville facility. The candidate will perform maintenance and rehabilitation on infrastructure, including buildings, recreation facilities, bridges, dams, access roads, trails, boundary lines, and wildlife management areas.They will be required to perform moderate to heavy manual labor; climb a ladder and work at heights on scaffolds and platforms; operate heavy equipment, large tractors, and mowers; transport heavy equipment and haul gravel; and adhere to all applicable safety standards and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications Two years of full-time experience in maintenance or mechanical workunder the supervision of a skilled tradesperson; OR completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services,such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association-Partnership (NYSCSEA-P) Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program*; or an equivalent combination ofexperience and training gained by completion of appropriate technical courses at aschool, institute, or branch of the Armed Services..*Successful completion of the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific classroom instruction, 45 hours of technical math course work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, and 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading course work. It does not include 4,000 hours of on-the-job training, as required for the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled TradesTraineeship.Must obtain a Class B CDL within 12 months of appointment with appropriate endorsements and no airbrake restriction.
Additional Comments This is a hourly appointment currently funded through 3/31/2027, with a likelihood of continuing beyond that date. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date. Actual work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview. Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.Transportation needs of this position require use of a state vehicle and adhering to the Department’s Vehicle Policy. You must have and maintain a valid driver’s license for this position.Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.Must be able to work in remote areas.Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Travel may be required.Overtime may be required. Overnight travel may be required.Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be available for emergency response.Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies.Must obtain a Class B CDL within 12 months of appointment with appropriate endorsements and no air brake restriction.
