Overview

Superior Ambulance Service started in 1959 with one ambulance and today is the largest independent, locally owned, and operated emergency medical services provider in the Midwest. Superior employs more than 4,000 licensed EMT, Paramedics and Nurses, operating a fleet of more than 800 ambulances throughout Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, and Wisconsin with over 55 locations. Superior also provides Critical Care, helicopter, and fixed wing emergency medical transportation.

Admission to Superior's EMT Class will be approved based on an entrance assessment and other pre-screening steps.

Program Details:

  • Format : 220 hour in-person EMT Class that consists of lectures, textbook reading, hands-on learning, and ride time

  • Topics : Airway management, cardiac emergencies, pharmacology, pediatrics, trauma, obstetrics, etc.

  • Schedule : 15 weeks, 3 weekdays per week, day and evening classes available

  • Location : Highland, IN

  • Goal : Prepare students to pass the National Registry Exam and obtain their state EMT license as they begin their EMS career at Superior.

  • Post-Class Employment : Upon successful completion of class, the student will have the opportunity to be hired as a full-time Superior employee.

  • Cost : There is no cost for selected students to attend the class, unless they are unable to successfully complete the class and 15-months of full-time employment after class. If you are unable to complete the class and fulfill the 15-months of full-time continuous employment after class, you will be billed for the cost of class.

Responsibilities

  • Attendance : Complete attendance to all class sessions and scheduled ride time shifts is mandatory; students are responsible for obtaining their own reliable form of transportation.

  • Time Commitment : Class is 14 hours a week with 5-10 hours spent outside of class studying, working on homework, ride time, etc.; students are responsible for ensuring their attendance and being able to fully commit to class.

  • Technology : Class contains instructor assigned homework assignments that are completed online; students are responsible for providing their own means of technology.

Qualifications

  • Driver's License : A valid unrestricted driver's license with 1 year of driving experience, satisfactory driving record, and ability to safely operate a vehicle in various conditions, including daytime, nighttime and inclement weather.

  • Age : 18 years of age or older

  • Education : High School diploma or GED

  • Post-Class Employment : Ability to work for Superior Ambulance Service for a continuous 15-months on a full-time templated schedule after the completion of class.
