Full job description

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Installs, maintains, and repairs university locking systems

  • Completes project requests and estimates project costs for locking systems. Meets with requestors and vendors to research locking systems and develops recommendations for solutions. Completes and/or coordinates installations

  • Meets with stakeholders during building construction to map out the core codes needed for new or renovated buildings

  • Maintains keying records and systems

  • Maintains material/shop inventory, including ordering materials using the purchase requisition system

  • Provides immediate, on-call response as requested for building related maintenance emergencies

  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Knowledge of mechanical and electronic locking systems, including installation, maintenance, and repair

  • Knowledge of electronic filing systems

  • Skill in the use of common hand tools

  • Skill in cutting, duplicating, and rekeying keys to meet security requirements

  • Ability to maintain door hardware equipment and specialty lock shop tools

  • Ability to ensure the confidentiality and integrity of key control and access systems

Minimum Education & Experience

  • High School diploma or GED

  • 5 years of relevant experience

  • Equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered

Facilities Management Services (FMS) supports the RIT community by designing, constructing, operating, and maintaining a high-quality, cost-effective campus environment. The FMS Maintenance Services team plays a critical role in this mission by providing corrective and preventive maintenance for interior and exterior building systems and components across campus.

As a member of the FMS Maintenance Services team, the Master Locksmith is responsible for maintaining the security and functionality of campus locking systems and supporting the Institute's key management program.
