WHAT WILL YOU DO AS AN OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST AT ELLIS MEDICINE?

Under the direction of the Manager/Director of the Rehabilitation Services Department, the occupational therapist is responsible for providing, arranging for, teaching and supervising occupational therapy services through the process of assessment, planning and implementation. He/she provides advisory service to other professionals who share responsibility for patient care and participates in the development of the rehabilitation program.

  • Provide evaluation and treatment according to approved practices, policies, and procedures of the Rehabilitation Services Department of Ellis Hospital and New York State law. Demonstrates skills and abilities to assess and treat newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.

  • Provide approved documentation to appropriate authorities.

  • Demonstrate effective communication skills with all persons involved in patient care and/or hospital activities

  • Assure financial viability according to standards of practice.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of growth and developmental processes and understanding of the range of treatment needed for patients with special needs or age-related needs.

  • Develops plans for appropriate equipment needs of patients.

  • Teaches appropriate treatment procedures and supportive activities to patients and caregivers.

  • Promote effective interpersonal and interdisciplinary relationships – professional conduct.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO BE AN OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST?

Education and Experience Requirements: An occupational therapist must have a minimum of four years of education beyond high school attaining a Bachelor of Science degree or Certificate of Occupational Therapy from a college with a program approved by the American Occupational Therapy Association. He/she should hold certification from the American Occupational Therapy Association. He/she must be licensed to practice occupational therapy in/by the State of New York. Salary: $50.00 per hour . Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
