Full job description

The Department of Chemistry at Rice University in Houston, TX, seeks applicants for a tenure-track appointment at the assistant professor level with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2027. We seek faculty members who will develop a world-leading, dynamic and innovative research program in fundamental science and who will excel in teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels, while embracing Rice University’s diverse community and culture of excellence.

We welcome applicants with expertise in any area of Physical Chemistry for Sustainable Futures or Innovations in Health, including, but not limited to, research on solar energy conversion, solar fuels, environmental remediation, photocatalysis, polymer upcycling, and green chemistry, as well as the physical chemistry, spectroscopy, and related fundamental science underpinning health, biomedical, and diagnostic applications. Candidates must complete their application through Interfolio, the hiring system for Rice University. A PhD in the chemical sciences or closely related fields is required by July 1, 2027.

The ideal candidate will develop a research group supported by external funding, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and at conferences. The candidate will also contribute to service at the departmental, school, university, and professional levels and foster interdisciplinary collaborations.
