Intern, Water Quality (Lead and Copper Compliance)

Job Summary

The Water Quality Management team at Aquarion is looking for an Intern! The Water Quality (Lead and Copper Compliance) Intern is accountable to the Supervisor, WQ Field Operations. The chosen candidate will support the Water Quality Information Services Coordinator with soliciting customer participation in the lead and copper monitoring program. This internship will run from September through December 2026.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning of lead and copper sampling routes throughout Aquarion’s Connecticut systems.

  • Support the laboratory information system process by receiving samples. Prepare samples for transference to contract laboratories.

  • Safely drive to customer homes within Aquarion’s Connecticut systems to drop off and pick up samples. May also be required to assist in Aquarion of Massachusetts systems.

  • May also support the Reservoir Management, (Deeps), Monitoring Program by assisting with sampling the major reservoirs by boat, maintenance of supplies and equipment used in sample collection and preparing sample bottles for sample collection.

  • Performs all duties in a manner consistent with company safety procedures for working and general driving safety.

Preferred Requirements

  • Applicants must have good written and oral communication skills as well as above average problem-solving abilities.

  • Must have working knowledge of Microsoft platform including Word and Excel.

  • Applicants must be able to lift 50 pounds regularly (up to 75lbs of weight in some circumstances).

  • Applicants must possess a valid driver's license. Must be able to swim (for safety reasons).

  • Experience in the drinking water field is desired

Education/Certifications

  • Have or be pursuing a Bachelors degree in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science or related field.

  • Must hold a valid CT state driver’s license.

  • Boating experience required; Boating Certificate from CTDEEP preferred

Salary

  • This is a temporary, non-benefit eligible, full-time position based out of our Monroe Office (Monroe, CT).

  • Days and Hours are Monday through Friday (8:00AM to 4:30PM). Will run from September through December 2026.

  • Salary will be $19.50/hour
