Full job description

Position Overview

The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) provides evaluation, diagnosis, and therapeutic services to students with speech, language, and communication disorders. The SLP supports students’ academic success by addressing communication needs and collaborating with educators, families, and multidisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities

Assessment & Evaluation

  1. Conduct speech, language, and communication evaluations using standardized and informal assessments

  2. Interpret evaluation results and determine eligibility for services under IDEA

  3. Prepare detailed evaluation reports and recommendations

Therapy & Intervention

  1. Develop and implement Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals for students

  2. Provide direct and indirect speech-language therapy services

  3. Address articulation, fluency, voice, expressive/receptive language, and social communication skills

  4. Adapt therapy plans based on student progress

IEP & Special Education Team Participation

  1. Participate in IEP meetings and collaborate in goal development

  2. Serve as a key member of the special education team

  3. Maintain compliance with federal (IDEA) and Massachusetts state regulations

Collaboration & Consultation

  1. Work closely with teachers, administrators, school psychologists, occupational therapists, and other specialists

  2. Consult with staff on classroom strategies to support communication skills

  3. Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress

Documentation & Compliance

  1. Maintain accurate and timely service logs, progress reports, and student records

  2. Ensure compliance with Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) guidelines

  3. Manage caseload and scheduling effectively

Qualifications

Education & Licensure

  1. Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Disorders

  2. Valid Massachusetts SLP license (Board of Registration in Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology)

  3. Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from ASHA preferred or eligibility required

  4. Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) licensure as a Speech, Language, and Hearing Disorders Specialist

Experience

  1. Experience in a school setting preferred

  2. Familiarity with IEP development and special education processes

Skills & Competencies

  1. Strong assessment and therapeutic skills

  2. Knowledge of child development and communication disorders

  3. Excellent communication and collaboration skills

  4. Ability to manage a diverse caseload

  5. Cultural competence and ability to work with diverse populations

Work Environment

  1. School-based setting serving a diverse student population

  2. May travel between multiple school sites within the district
