About the Position: Serves as Transportation Assistant for a Surface Deployment Distribution Command (SDDC) Transportation Detachment. Current Department of Army Civilian Employees Applying on Time-Limited Assignments In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) selection of modes of transportation for different types of freight such as rail classifications, motor, tariffs through cargo movement; 2) determining type of cargo, classifying, rating and routing of freight and making cost comparisons; 3) preparing shipment documents. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06). Identifies cargo characteristics, determines special handling requirements, required priority, and required delivery dates. Determines the most effective method for the nationwide movement of retrograde and frustrated cargo, and for local deliveries. Reviews cargo outturn reports and shipment discrepancy reports to assess carrier’s liability for losses/damages and recommends appropriate claim action. Enters import/export cargo data in the Global Air Transportation Execution System (GATES). Maintains documents to verify automated output for coding and numerical information related to Stevedoring and Related Terminal Services (SRTS) contractor payments Perform documentation tasks by operating automated transportation documentation systems in an office environment and on-site at port facilities within the Area of Referral (AOR) and when deployed.
