Senior Controls Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking a Senior Electrical Controls Engineer to join a dynamic team within a growing automation systems integrator and equipment manufacturer. This role involves designing and building custom automation solutions for various industrial clients, supporting projects from conception and design through to startup and commissioning. This is a unique opportunity to work on high-profile automation projects involving robotics, AGVs, AMRs, conveyance systems, and control technologies, where you will see your designs come to life in a hands-on manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities

Lead electrical controls engineering efforts across multiple automation projects.

Design electrical control systems, schematics, and control panels.

Program, troubleshoot, and support PLCs, HMIs, and robotic systems.

Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.

Manage project schedules, budgets, scope, and deliverables.

Support system startup, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.

Collaborate with engineering, fabrication, installation, and customer teams.

Review and support existing control systems designed by other engineers.

Ensure projects comply with NEC, NFPA 79, UL508A, OSHA, and customer standards.

Assist with continuous improvement initiatives and standardization efforts.
Essential Skills
-
Minimum of 5 years of electrical controls engineering experience within manufacturing, automation, or system integration environments.

Experience with PLC and HMI programming.

Experience designing electrical controls and panel systems.

Experience troubleshooting industrial automation equipment.

Strong understanding of industrial control systems and automation technologies.

Ability to lead projects and provide technical guidance to team members.

Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to travel approximately 10-20% as needed for project support and commissioning.
Additional Skills & Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred.

Associate Degree with significant applicable automation or manufacturing experience will also be considered.

Experience with robotics, AGVs, AMRs, or material handling systems.

Experience in a custom machine building or systems integration environment.

Project management or project leadership experience.

Knowledge of NEC, NFPA 79, UL508A, and OSHA standards.
Work Environment
This role is set in a collaborative and hands-on engineering environment where employees work directly with equipment and automation systems throughout the project lifecycle. The organization offers a casual, team-oriented culture with flexible scheduling and occasional work-from-home flexibility. Company-paid travel arrangements are provided. Employees will be exposed to modern manufacturing and fabrication facilities and advanced automation technologies, including robotics, AGVs, AMRs, and conveyance systems. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $115000.00/yr.
