Summary:

Meta is seeking a data center Lead Building Engineer to join our Data Center Facility Operations team. Our data centers serve as the foundation upon which our software operates to meet the demands of our customers. The Lead Building Engineer will be a part of the Facility Operations team responsible for operating and maintaining critical systems in our data centers. They will be an individual contributor who provides day to day coordination and oversight of work in one ~30MW building. The Lead Building Engineer will report to a Critical Operations Manager and will be expected to maintain a comprehensive understanding of the state of the data center. The candidate will need to be experienced in diverse industries such as electrical generation, electrical distribution, cooling technologies, building control and fire protection systems.

Required Skills:

Lead Building Engineer Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee the work for a 30MW+ data center to ensure schedule deconfliction, work priority, maintenance compliance, procedural compliance, and team readiness

  2. Schedule and supervise vendors/subcontractors during equipment/systems maintenance and service

  3. Perform hands-on operations and maintenance which includes all physical and administrative operations tasks, service, and maintenance in accordance with site processes and procedures to ensure the highest levels of uptime, efficiency, and safety without disruption to the business

  4. Review all operating procedures, serve as final approval authority on some procedures based on internal standards

  5. Support incident management, root cause analysis, and corrective action closure for any operational issues that arise in the data center

  6. Achieve and maintain a high-level of technical knowledge regarding data center infrastructure and operations. Successfully complete personnel qualification standards (PQS) training

  7. Maintain up to date knowledge of Meta policies and standards and follow standards in all work

  8. Provide in-the-field training to Critical Facility Engineers and support the identification of training needs across the team

  9. Ensure the accuracy of work orders in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)

  10. Collaborate with peer Lead Building Engineers to deconflict work across campus and maintain consistency in operations between buildings

  11. Provide technical expertise and assistance as required

  12. Regularly inspect equipment, buildings, safety routes and grounds to check or identify any abnormal or unsafe conditions or faults

  13. Troubleshoot, evaluate and recommend system upgrades

  14. Order parts and supplies for maintenance and repairs through internal tooling

  15. Escalate issues to facility management appropriately and timely

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. 7+ years experience in electrical, HVAC, mechanical, controls, or other technical maintenance field

  2. Associate's Degree in engineering plus 5+ years experience or Bachelor's degree in related field plus 3+ years experience in electrical, HVAC, mechanical, or controls will be considered in lieu of 7+ years experience

  3. Proficient with maintenance management program

  4. Proficient with computer systems including documents, spreadsheets, and email

  5. Regularly walk job site areas of flat and uneven terrain

  6. Work at varying heights and from ladders

  7. Use hands and fingers

  8. Reach/push/pull with hands/arms/shoulders

  9. Stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl

  10. Lift and/or otherwise move 45 pounds or more

  11. Sit or stand at a workstation for extended periods of time

  1. Experience in leading a team of maintenance Engineers/Technicians

  2. Experience interpreting blueprints/CAD drawings

  3. Experience in planning large scale maintenance programs

  4. Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and life safety monitoring and control systems typically used in critical environments

  5. Professional affiliations (7x24 Exchange, IFMA, Data Center Pulse, etc.)

  6. 5+ years experience in a data center or other Critical Environment (pharma, clean room, medical, power production, etc.)

  7. Trade Certification or state licensure in Electrical or Mechanical (HVAC)

  8. Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)

  9. Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)

  10. Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies

Public Compensation:

$104,998/year to $151,008/year + bonus + equity + benefits
