Intermediate Capital Cost Estimator (Mechanical)

Greentree, PA, United States

Responsibilities

  • Develop accurate cost estimates for mechanical equipment, piping, HVAC, and structural components for industrial manufacturing and Food & Beverage projects.

  • Prepare detailed material take-offs (MTOs) from P&IDs and 3D models related to process piping, hygienic piping (304/316L SS), and utility piping (chilled water, compressed air, steam).

  • Apply HACCP principles to mechanical estimating, ensuring correct pricing for sanitary design elements including orbital welding, inspection, dead leg elimination, surface finish requirements, and CIP/SIP systems.

  • Solicit and evaluate vendor quotes for specialized Food & Beverage equipment such as homogenizers, pasteurizers, sanitary pumps, and advanced material handling systems.

  • Adjust estimates for brownfield environments, factoring in dust control, temporary hygienic hoarding, and system tie-ins.

  • Apply industry-standard labor norms to mechanical installations, adjusting for site-specific conditions and sanitary welding rates.

  • Assist in preparing AACE Class 3 and Class 2 detailed estimates with clear basis of estimate documentation.

Requirements

  • 4–7 years of estimating experience in mechanical and piping disciplines within industrial, manufacturing, or Food & Beverage sectors.

  • Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field.

  • Strong knowledge of hygienic design standards, HACCP construction requirements, and sanitary piping systems.

  • Familiarity with AACE Recommended Practices; working towards AACE certification is an asset.

  • Experience with consulting cost and schedule risk assessments is a plus.
