Description: POSITION PURPOSE

  • The Clinical Practice Leader will be supporting the Family Birth Center.

  • The Clinical Practice Leader is a master's prepared RN who is responsible for coordination of care of the patient population within a specific unit through knowing the patient, communication and lateral integration of care. The CPL serves as a change agent to translate and integrate evidence into practice; to design and evaluate care and improve outcomes. Focus on Quality Metrics, Patient Satisfaction and Outcomes for the Labor and Delivery Unit.

  • Our experienced medical and nursing staff deliver over 4,000 babies annually. Our obstetricians, midwives and nursing staff have been specially trained in both normal and high-risk births. The Family Birth Center includes12 modern Labor/Delivery/Recovery rooms, 4 high risk intrapartum/postpartum rooms, 6 antepartum rooms, 7 triage/OB ED rooms, and 3 surgical suites with 4 pacu bays.

MINIUMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: A Master of Science in Nursing (Clinical, Education, Administration all acceptable).

  • Licensure: Current licensure as Registered Nurse in state of Michigan.

  • Experience: Three or more years' experience in Women's and Children's Health / Labor and Delivery experience required.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Performs and oversees the collection of holistic assessments and the development and implementation of a plan of care. Assesses patient’s response to treatment and care in collaboration with other care providers.

  • Consults on complex problems in client care, documents findings and progress in electronic record. Consults with physicians and other healthcare providers to communicate patient progress.

  • Ensures patient/family preparation for care across continuum prioritizing for high risk, chronically ill, complex, medically fragile patients.

  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills by synthesizing multiple data elements to evaluate and achieve optimal patient outcomes.

  • Assimilates and applies research/evidence-based practice information that supports improved patient care outcomes.

  • Collaborates as a member of unit leadership to achieve effective nursing operations:

  • Leads and or actively participates in daily quality huddles

  • Formally coaches and reinforces identified behaviors and established expectations related to nursing practice

  • Leads, supports and participates in shared governance activities

  • Identifies and substantiates resources needed for optimal patient care. Looks for opportunities to reduce costs and waste

  • Leads clinical practice at the unit level to achieve unit quality improvement and outcome-based initiatives. Initiates unit-based system reviews such as learning from defects and participate in root cause analyses to improve the quality of patient care delivery; critically evaluates and anticipates risks to patient safety.

  • Supports the clinical and professional development of nursing colleagues through mentoring, coaching and role modeling, including residency program and project development.
