Position Type: Part-Time / Stipend Position
Reports To: Activities Director / Principal
The Head Large Group Speech Coach is responsible for working with the Speech Coaching team to lead and manage the high school speech team.There is a Large Group Head and Individual Head but they are both involved in both seasons. This includes developing students' public speaking, interpretation, and performance skills while fostering a positive and inclusive team culture. The coach organizes practices, prepares students for competition, manages meet logistics, and ensures compliance with school and state activity association guidelines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Plan and conduct regular team practices and individual coaching sessions.

Instruct students in various speech categories, including but not limited to: Interpretive Reading, After Dinner Speaking, Musical Theatre, Ensemble Acting, and Improvisation.

Select, review, and approve competition materials to ensure appropriateness and alignment with contest rules.

Prepare students for local, regional, and state-level competitions.

Coordinate and attend speech meets, often on evenings and weekends.

Communicate effectively with students, parents, school staff, and competition officials.

Promote team participation and recruit new team members.

Manage team registrations, transportation, and meet logistics.

Supervise student behavior and enforce school policies during practices and competitions.

Maintain accurate records of participation and performance.

Attend relevant coaching meetings, clinics, and professional development opportunities.

Requires evening and weekend availability for tournaments and events.

Travel to competitions is required; transportation arrangements may be provided by the school or district.
Qualifications:

Prior experience with IHSSA speech events preferred.

Ability to pass a background check, in accordance with school policy.
